MeMoSA® (Mobile Mouth Screening Anywhere) is an AI-assisted, clinician-reviewed digital platform designed to support screening for oral cancer and oral potentially malignant disorders (OPMD) by enabling guided image capture and remote clinical review. It is intended to improve access to screening, particularly in settings where dental services are limited.
No. MeMoSA® is a screening support tool, not a diagnostic test. It helps identify oral lesions that may require further clinical attention, but it does not provide medical diagnoses or replace in-person examinations with a qualified dental or medical professional.
MeMoSA® was developed by Cancer Research Malaysia (CRMY) and is commercialised through its wholly-owned subsidiary, CRMY Technologies Sdn Bhd (CTSB), to enable responsible scaling and real-world deployment.
MeMoSA® has demonstrated high concordance with clinical oral examination in validation studies, supporting its use as a screening and triage tool. It is designed to assist in identifying lesions that may require further clinical evaluation.
A validation study demonstrated 94.9% concordance* between screening using the MeMoSA® App and clinical oral examination (COE), confirming the reliability of remote review with MeMoSA® as a screening support tool.

If the screening identifies a suspicious lesion, the individual will be advised to seek follow-up care with a dentist or specialist. MeMoSA® supports referral pathways but does not provide a medical diagnosis.

You may also bring your report to your preferred dentist or healthcare provider. The report includes clinical notes from MeMoSA®’s clinical reviewers to support further assessment.
Please note that if your chosen healthcare provider is not part of the MeMoSA® clinical network, they may not be familiar with the platform. However, the report is designed to provide sufficient clinical context for your dentist or specialist.
No. The AI component in MeMoSA® assists with image quality assessment and structured data capture. All submitted images are reviewed by qualified dentists or oral specialists, who determine whether referral or follow-up is recommended.
The MeMoSA® mobile application includes AI-assisted guidance to help users capture high-quality oral images for screening.
Internal evaluations indicate that the AI can support acceptable image quality in approximately 90% of cases. These findings are currently unpublished and are being further validated.
The AI is intended to support image capture quality and does not replace clinical assessment by a qualified dental or medical professional.
Currently, MeMoSA® does not use AI to automatically triage or diagnose lesions.
All screening images are reviewed by dentists or specialists, who assess whether further clinical evaluation is required.
The development of AI models to support risk stratification and triage is part of MeMoSA®’s future roadmap and will be introduced only after appropriate validation and regulatory review.
The MeMoSA® AI models are developed using a large, clinically annotated dataset of oral images.

The current version of MeMoSA®, without AI models for triage and risk stratification, has been reviewed and exempted by the Medical Device Authority (MDA) of Malaysia.
