Genetix Genetic Counselling Team Shares Cancer Genetics Research at ASCOMOS 2026

The Genetix Genetic Counselling Team was pleased to participate in the 37th Annual Scientific Congress of the Malaysian Oncological Society 2026 (ASCOMOS 2026), held from 3 to 5 July 2026 at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre. Representing Genetix by Cancer Research Malaysia, Ms Yoon Sook Yee, Ms Tiara Hassan and Ms Claudia Richards contributed to scientific discussions on cancer genomics, genetic counselling, genetic testing access and patient-centred cancer care in Malaysia.

At the congress, the team shared findings from Genetix and Cancer Research Malaysia’s ongoing work, including the CONGEN study, which focuses on consensus recommendations for cancer genomic test reporting standards in Malaysia. The team also presented findings from a genetic testing subsidy programme for breast cancer patients across Malaysia, highlighting the role of financial support in improving equitable access to genetic testing across public and private healthcare settings.

In addition, the team shared findings from the GECCO study, which examines barriers faced by non-genetic healthcare professionals in identifying high-risk colorectal cancer patients for germline genetic testing referrals.

ASCOMOS 2026 also provided an important opportunity to connect with clinicians and clinical collaborators who work closely with Genetix to support patients through genetic counselling and testing. These include surgeons, oncologists and clinician-investigators who refer patients for genetic counselling to help them better understand inherited cancer risk and make informed decisions about their care.

Through continued collaboration between genetic counsellors, clinicians and researchers, Genetix remains committed to advancing access to professional genetic counselling and genetic testing services in Malaysia.
